Thomas H. Gilmore

June 22, 1949 — November 21, 2022

Monday, November 21, 2022, marked Thomas H. Gilmore’s final day spent with us in our world. Tom, affectionately known as “Tommy,” left us to be with God and all who went before him.
Born on June 22, 1949, Tommy lived in Swoyersville for a short time before his family moved to Wyoming, where he grew up and started the journey that formed the man he became. As an active boy scout, in his youth Tommy discovered his love for the outdoors, which later led him to completing an Outward Bound course in Maine. He attended Wyoming High School and later became a student at the newly merged Wyoming Area his senior year. He was a proud member of the football team for which he played center. A 1971 graduate of Kings College, Tommy majored in history, a subject for which he had a life-long passion. He later entered the family business and became a food broker in the Hugh T. Gilmore Company, where he stayed until his retirement.
An avid cyclist, Tommy would think nothing of getting on his bike for a 50-mile ride. He always said that his bike made him feel free and like he was flying. He also loved to travel and would pack a bag given a moment’s notice to go anywhere. From Paris to Sydney, the Great Wall of China to Machu Picchu, and the canals of Venice to the streets of Dublin—he saw it all. Tommy found his true passion and calling later in his life when he became a certified Yin Yoga instructor. He was grateful to be able to help others on their wellness journeys, and he especially loved teaching veterans yoga and meditation.
Tommy led a joyful life filled with adventure, good food, good drink, and great conversation. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and community.
Proceeding him home are his mother, Carol Bartholomew; his father, Hugh Gilmore; his sister, Patricia Gilmore; and his niece, Valerie Zalepa.
Left to rejoice in the memory of his life are his wife, Alice Bogacki Gilmore; his daughter, Kelly Wilson (husband David and daughter Victoria); his sister Kathy Rahl (husband Al); his brothers, Shaun Gilmore (wife Sarah and son Lucian) and Hugh Gilmore; his niece, Brittany Gallup (husband Tyler and son Lennon); and nephew, Edward Zalepa (daughters Sophie and Kinsleigh).
His extended family includes his stepchildren, whom he cherished: Richard Fassett (Tracy), Jennifer Sorokach, Mary Rose Tonkin (Pete), and his 10 step grandchildren.
Tommy’s family would like to extend their deepest and most sincere thanks to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore for the compassionate care during their time of need.
Time for giving condolences and sharing memories will be Monday, November 28 from 4PM-7PM at Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home, Inc. 504 Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming PA.
A mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, November 29, 10:00 AM, at Corpus Christi Parish, church of the Immaculate Conception, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston, Monsignor John Sempa, celebrant. Family and friends are asked to go directly to church on the morning of the mass.
