Richard Matthews

December 31, 1930 — June 5, 2022

Richard Matthews, 91, of Wyoming, passed away on Sunday, June 5 at Highland Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Exeter.

He was born in Scranton, son of the late Joseph Matthews and Mary (Cook) Matthews. Richard graduated from Tech School in Scranton. He proudly served his country as a United States Marine and fought in the Korean War where received an Ambassadors Medal during his service. He was employed as a truck driver for Branch Motor Express for 35 years. Richard was a member of the American Legion #945, and the Teamsters Union. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wyoming.

In addition to his parents Richard was preceded in death by his brothers; Joseph, Willard, Charles and sister; Elizabeth Kramer.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Evelyn (Susie) (Hartman) Matthews, sisters-in-law; Roberta (Bobbi) Tsempales and husband George (Gus) of VA, Edna Pangel and partner Darla Wendel of WA, and brother-in-law Robert (Donnie) Hartman and wife Joan of CT. He will be missed by his nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special thanks for the care and compassion Dr. Kevin Musto provided. They would also like to thank the staff at Highland Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Compassionate Care Hospice for their kindness and service.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday July 13, 2022, at 2pm in the Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home Inc. 504 Wyoming Avenue Wyoming with Dennis Gray officiating.

Friends may call Wednesday 1-2pm in the funeral home.
