Mary Lou Gillespie, 77, of Wyoming passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 23, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Pittston, Mary Lou was the daughter of the late Edward Ruane and Mary Kearns Ruane. She graduated from Wyoming High School and later attended McCann School of Business & Technology. She was proudly employed as the Secretary for the Biology/Psychology Department at Wilkes University for 26 years where she was also a notary public. She was a member of St. Cecilia’s Church and St. Barbara’s Parish. Mary Lou will be remembered as a kind and gentle woman who radiated warmth to everyone she met. She was a devoted wife, adoring mother, and loving nana to her beloved grandchildren, Evan and Liam, who were the light of her life.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband of 51 years, Joseph, her children; Mary Beth Allen and husband Bernard of Dallas, Edward Gillespie and Michelle Welgosh of W. Pittston, Joe Gillespie and Kate Young of South Lake Tahoe, John Gillespie of W. Pittston, brother; Edward Ruane and wife Janine of W. Pittston, and grandchildren; Evan and Liam Allen. Mary Lou is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 29, at 9:30am from the Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home, 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, PA with a mass of Christian burial at 10:00am in Saint Anthony’s Church of the Parish of Saint Barbara, 224 Memorial St., Exeter, PA., Msgr. John J. Sempa, celebrant.
Interment will be in the Saint Cecilia’s Cemetery, Exeter.
Friends may call Sunday, August 28 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home, 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
