Frank J. LaSota, 74, of Dallas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at the VA Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre PA.
Frank, originally from Dupont PA, was born on May 30, 1947. Upon graduation from high school, Frank entered the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia. While in the Air Force, Frank was an aircraft maintenance specialty mechanic. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Frank went on to be a policeman with the Dupont Borough Police Department. He then worked for Hanson’s Amusement Park and Campground at Harvey’s Lake for many years and was a member of the Harvey’s Lake Fire Department. Frank has always been a carpenter by trade, he loved building and fixing things. Frank was a member of the Harvey’s Lake American Legion Post #967, where he held many offices over his lifetime including Vice-Commander and enjoyed being involved in the yearly kids fishing derby. Frank was known as Poppy by most that knew him. He loved hunting, fishing, road trips, and visiting with friends. In addition to his loving mother, he was preceded in death by his beloved dog Patchy, they were the best of friends.
Frank is survived by his stepchildren; Chrissy Cole and her husband Brad of Winston-Salem NC, Jim Gavek Jr and his wife Melissa of Effort PA, Christine Coombs and her partner Kelly Shaw, Dallas PA, with whom he resided – special thanks to both of them. He is also survived by his grandchildren that he loved so very much and were the light of his life; Karli Gavek, Kayla Gavek, Jimmy Gavek III, Nile Gavek, and Jake Spickerman.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home, 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, Rev. Laura Lewis, officiant.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 22 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Interment will be on Wednesday, April 27 at 11:00 AM in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Indiantown Gap Rd., Annville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Harvey’s Lake American Legion Post #967, 4907 Memorial Highway, Harvey’s Lake PA 18618.
