Dennis King

August 24, 1951 — October 17, 2022

Dennis W King, 71 of Noxen, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2022, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was born in Norfolk VA and grew up in Bloomsburg PA. He was the son of the late Melvin and Kathryn (Kleppinger) King. After graduating from Bloomsburg High School in 1969, Dennis served in the Vietnam War as a cryptographic repair technician. Following his military service, he achieved a degree in small engine repair and eventually went back to school for nursing. He worked at Clarks Summit State Hospital as a nurse for 28 years and ended his career as a ward supervisor.
Dennis went through life with an open mind and natural curiosity which reflected in his eclectic interests and life philosophies. He will be most remembered for his love of music as a brilliant jazz and blues guitarist. He believed everyone needed music in their lives and would share lessons and instruments whenever he could. Dennis was also known for his love of motorcycles and trials riding; between competitions he would connect with his sons by taking them on rides and teaching them how to ride on their own.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl (Field) King, sons; Joshua and Jonathan King, and grandson James King of Noxen. Cheryl and Dennis met in their early careers at Clark Summit State Hospital where they got to know each other over coffee breaks. They enjoyed spending time in nature together and their engagement began in a field of mountain laurel. Service was a common thread in the family and Dennis was always proud of Joshua serving in the Marine Corps in Afghanistan and Jonathan serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Zambia.
Dennis is also survived by brother Melvin King (Michelle), sisters; Rochelle Piso, Mary Perez (Richard), Elvina Houghton, and sister-in-law; Sue King. As much as he was a King, he was an honorary Field and became part of the family to his in-laws; Dr. Steven Field, Mark (Debbye) Field, Jack (Amber) Field, Joel (Stacy) Field, Cindy (Ron) Manes, and Mike Field. He enjoyed spending time and sharing music with his many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his sisters; Ruth Hanlon, and Donna Eisenhauer, and brother Wayne King.
The family asks that donations be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America (pva.org) and/or Patriots Cove (4298 State Route 29 South, Noxen PA 18636) to honor Dennis’ generosity and service.
A celebration of Dennis’ life is currently being planned by the family and a date is to be determined.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Nulton Kopcza Funeral Home, 5749 S R 309, Monroe Twp., PA.
