RUTH A. OLIVERI of Exeter passed away unexpectedly Saturday evening in the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.
Born in Wyoming she was the daughter of the late Michael and Josephine Bruno Marstell. She was educated in the Wyoming schools and graduated from the Wyoming Memorial High School. Prior to her retirement she was employed as part of the support staff in the Wyoming Area High School
Cafeteria. She was a member of St. Joseph Marello Parish of Pittston.
Ruth married her High School sweetheart Jimmy and they became immediate dance partners. They were married for 54 years before he passed away in 2013. Ruth and her husband were active members of the Big Band Society of NEPA were she served on the board. They were also members of the Party of the Month Club where Ruth served as president for many years.
Ruth loved traveling with her husband and son, with Italy being a frequent favorite destination. She also enjoyed shopping, going out to eat and sharing her love of gardening with her daughter Janine. Later in life she became a country music lover and an avid reader. Ruth was a woman of her word, and remained strong and independent throughout her life. She was an excellent home gardener and took pride in her flower beds. She was also a great cook, baker and fashionista who wouldn’t go anywhere without her lipstick.
Ruth was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She will be especially missed by her daughter and best friend Janine.
Preceding her in death was her husband James M. Oliveri, son James (Jamie) Oliveri and sisters Mary Maruca and Elizabeth Ondek
Surviving are her daughter Janine Oliveri, Forty Fort; Debbie Pavlico who she also considered a daughter; Godson Ernie Angelella (Mary Louise); nieces, nephews, and many very good friends. Ruth also leaves behind her precious grand dogs Rocco and Max.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday at noon in Immaculate Conception Church of Corpus Christi Parish 605 Luzerne Avenue West Pittston, Pa 18643 with Msgr. John J Sempa, Celebrant.
Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call Thursday 11am- noon in the church.
