ROY W THOMAS
November 10, 2021
Roy William Thomas, 84, Harding, passed away at Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre, on November 10, 2021.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Peggy (Conklin) Thomas; parents, Roy J. Thomas and Marion (LaBar) Thomas; and sister Mary Jane (Thomas) Jenkins.
Roy is lovingly remembered by his children, Karen Rock and her husband, David, of Harding, PA; Ronald Thomas and his wife, Roxanne, of Fayetteville, TN; James Thomas and his wife, Sandy, of Huntsville, AL; Gwen Smith and her husband, Stephen, of Falls, PA; Holly Bienkowski and her companion William Simback of Sweet Valley, PA; Krista Dewey and her husband, Barry, of Bayou La Batre, AL; Seth Thomas and his wife, Chrissy, of Harding, PA; fourteen grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Born in Exeter Township, PA, Roy was a 1955 graduate of West Pittston High School. In school, he belonged to the glee club, yearbook staff, and chapel program. A lifelong member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Roy was active in the men’s class and handled affairs for the cemetery. He was a member of Wyoming Lodge No. 468 for more than 50 years and belonged to the Irem Shriners and the American Institute of Plant Engineers. He worked for T.C. Lloyd Construction for more than 30 years while raising seven children and later spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Roy was an avid reader, often snuggling into the corner of the couch with a book in one hand and a cup of tea in the other. He loved music; he could play several instruments and sing. He earned his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying. He was never afraid to learn new technologies. Much of what he knew about computers he taught himself, and he even wrote some of his own programs. More recently, he purchased an iPhone and enjoyed texting with his kids and grandkids. He liked to drive, especially when taking long car rides with his wife. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, mowing grass, riding quads, playing golf, or even just taking a long walk.
A celebration of Roy’s life will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 5 p.m. at Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home, 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
