Peter G. Lishnak of Plains Township passed away peacefully in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Thursday, February 3, after a short illness.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Peter Paul Lishnak and Margaret Marko Lishnak. Peter was a graduate of Coughlin High School and attended Penn State University for a short time. He graduated from Wilkes University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Marywood University where he earned his master’s degree in Secondary Counselor Education.
He was employed as a special populations Guidance Counselor at the Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technology Center for many years before his retirement. He enjoyed working with both the students and his colleagues. Peter had many hobbies including fishing, travel, softball, ornithology, and gardening. He was a patron of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology as well as Osterhout Library in Wilkes Barre, Pa. He was a favorite uncle to his many nephews and nieces who loved him dearly. He made sure they knew how proud he was of their many accomplishments.
He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Parish of Plains.
Peter is survived by his wife Marie, Plains Twp., sister Patricia Lipford, her husband Mark and their son Matthew of Orlando, Florida, and his brothers and sisters-in-law Joseph Gill, Plains Twp., Robert Gill, Plains Twp., Charles Gill and wife Susan and their children of Beachwood, New Jersey, James Gill and wife Joy and their children of State College, Pa, Brian Gill and his wife Donna and their children of Plains Twp., and Karen Gill Kopcza and her husband Joseph and their children of Wyoming, Pa.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday February 9th at 9:30am from the Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home Inc. 504 Wyoming Avenue Wyoming with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saints Peter and Paul Parish 13 Hudson Road. Plains with Father John C. Lambert celebrant.
Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church the morning of mass.
Interment will be in Saints Peter and Paul Parish Cemetery, Plains.
Friends may call Tuesday 4-7pm in the funeral home.
