Mary Ann (Cherkosky) Cipolla, 90, of West Pittston, made her final journey to meet her Lord and Savior on December 11, 2021, at Allied Services Hospice Center surrounded by her family after a brief illness.
Born in West Pittston on Easter morning, April 5, 1931, to the late Andrew and Anna (Bookler) Cherkosky, she graduated from West Pittston High School in 1949 and the Pittston Hospital School of Nursing with her RN license in 1952. She was proud to be born a coal miner’s daughter.
Mary Ann was a longtime Girl Scout leader and Red Cross volunteer. She started as a volunteer at the Greater Pittston Meals on Wheels and then became an employee for many years. She was a 4th degree knight in the Knights of Lithuania and a member of St. Casmir’s Church in Pittston and then the Immaculate Conception Church of Corpus Christi Parish, West Pittston.
Along with her husband, Dave, she became a world traveler and also took many trips with her sister Josephine. Mary Ann was an avid gardener. Her home and her family were her greatest joys.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant brothers, another brother Bobby in 1937, sisters Josephine Tilton and Eleanor Rose, granddaughter Angela Christine, and her husband of 61 years, David Cipolla Sr.
She is survived by her son, David Cipolla Jr. and his wife Jan, Tallmadge, Ohio; daughters Andrea Cipolla and her partner David Campbell, Tiger, Georgia, and Susan Gloeckner and her husband Gene, Loveland, Colorado; grandchildren Jennifer Klein (Brandon), Cynthia Cipolla, Rebecca Cipolla, Katherine Miller (Shane), and Skylar Gloeckner; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A loving and beloved wife, mother, Nana, and friend, she will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at 12 noon at the Immaculate Conception Church of the Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston. With Msgr. John J. Sempa, celebrant
Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to noon in the church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial.
Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in spring, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the West Pittston Library, 200 Exeter Avenue, West Pittston, PA
