JOSEPH J. MAROTTO, JR., 84, of Wyoming passed away Monday in Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit of Dunmore.

Born in Rochester, New York he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Benfante) Marotto of Bellus Court, Exeter, PA. He was a graduate of Exeter High School class of 1956. After high school he entered the United States Air Force and was stationed in England, Texas, Tennessee and attended the Air Force Academy. Following the military, he was employed for 11 years at Johns Manville of Manville, NJ and prior to his retirement he was employed at Proctor and Gamble in Meshoppen, PA for over 25 years. He was a member of St. Cecilia’s Church, Exeter, PA and later St. Anthony’s of St. Barbara’s Parish of Exeter, PA.

Joe was very hardworking, in his younger days and never missed a day of work. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and was married to Mary for over 60 years. He was smart, handsome, and loving.

Joe was an excellent father, giving husband and an all-around mild man who will be truly missed by his loving family and friends of the Pocono Downs race track.

Preceding him in death is his son Joseph Marotto III, brother Frank and sister Rosemary.

Surviving is his wife of 60 years the former Mary Shatrowsky Marotto; daughters, Dr. Georgetta Gdovin and Rose Boyd,
grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Surviving siblings are James Marotto of Pittston, PA , and sister Dorothy of California.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassion and kindness during Joe’s lengthy illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 9:30am in St. Anthony of Padua Church of St. Barbara’s Parish, 224 Memorial Street Exeter with the Rev. Michael Finn celebrant.

Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church on the morning of mass.

Interment will be in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Exeter.

There will be no calling hours.
