Irene Eleanor Belarski, 92, formerly of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away on January 12, 2022 at Serenity House in Centennial, Colorado.
She was born in Luzerne County, the daughter of the late Emil Joseph Belarski and the late Margaret Baldwin. After graduating Wyoming High School, she earned a B.S. in Chemistry at Misericordia University, an M.S. at Seton Hall University, completed post graduate studies in education at Columbia University, in nuclear physics and marine biology at the University of California, Berkeley, in mining and metallurgy at the Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO and in nuclear physics at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Colorado. Irene was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma honorary educational society, Women’s Life Insurance Society-Fraternal Organization, American Overseas Schools Archives-Department of Defense Dependents Schools, and the American Chemical Society. During her lifetime she was employed as a Chemistry teacher at Lakewood Public Schools, Colorado, from where she retired, taught for the Department of Defense in Europe for 10 years, was a Chemist at Merck & Co, and a teacher at Regional High School, Springfield, N.V.
An avid skier, golfer, and traveler, Irene participated in these activities well into her 80s. She was kind and generous, and had a special place in her heart for children, whom she always took time to talk to wherever she was. A very independent woman, Irene was thankful for the assistance of Marilyn Halpern, Aspen Guardianship and Care Services, and the staff at Serenity House who cared for her the last few years.
Surviving is her brother Rudy Belarski, his wife Lois, a nephew Brent, and many cousins.
