OBITUARY – OBITUARY – Helen Baker Harrison

Mrs. Helen B. Harrison passed into eternal rest to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, following a courageous bout with cancer on Saturday, November 4th, 2023. She was born on Christmas Day, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre, PA and was the youngest daughter of William and Louise Baker of Wyoming, PA. Helen graduated from Wyoming High School in 1946. Shortly afterward, she began working as a bookkeeper at the First National Bank of Wyoming, PA. Following her time at the bank, she moved to New York City in 1953 and worked with American Airlines for just over eight years. She left American Airlines in 1961 and returned to the Wyoming Valley to marry her beloved husband, Earl Harrison. Earl and Helen remained married for almost fifty-five years until Earl went to be with the Lord in August of 2016. Helen was a long-time member of the First Welsh Presbyterian Church of Edwardsville, PA where she served in numerous roles including, but not limited to, Sunday School teacher and superintendent. She was also a devoted and loving mother to her only son John.

Along with her parents and husband Earl, Helen was also preceded in death by her older sister and brother-in-law: Harriet and Thomas Frew. In addition to John, surviving are her nephew William Frew and wife Gail, nephews Robert and Thomas Frew, godson Larry Harrison and wife Gabrielle, as well as several great nephews, nieces, and cousins. A viewing on Wednesday, November 8th, from 9:30 – 10:30 AM, followed by a private funeral service, will be held at the Metcalfe-Shaver-Kopcza Funeral Home, 504 Wyoming Avenue in Wyoming, PA. The family wishes to thank the staff of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, in particular their oncology, bariatric, and rehabilitation units, along with the staff of United Methodist Homes – Wesley Village Campus, for their loving care and support during this challenging time. In lieu of flowers, donations on Mrs. Harrison’s behalf may be sent, in her name, to a charity of the donor’s choice.
