Hazel L. Wasserott

Hazel L. Wasserott, 81, of Forty Fort passed away Monday, May 15, 2023, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.

She was born in Orange, daughter of the late Francis and Mary Jane Fowler Smith. She was a graduate of Dallas High School and furthered her education by becoming an LPN. Hazel worked as a private duty nurse with several local agencies and founded her own agency, PRN. She was a kind and compassionate caregiver to her patients, but most especially to her family. Hazel was a founding member of the Back Mountain Riding Club and proudly rode her Pinto Misty in local parades and participated in many local carriage competitions, weddings and funerals with the late George Taylor and his famous collection of horse drawn carriages. Hazel had an unforgettable smile and a quick wit. She made the worst coffee in the world and baked the best apple pie in the history of apple pie. She loved her family and friends, convertibles, rose bushes, occasional trips to Mohegan Sun, cheesecake and her faithful canine companions Bug and Peanut, not necessarily in that order. Hazel will be sadly missed but remembered with a smile.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, John Smith, Frank Smith and George Smith, husband Charles Wasserott III; daughter-in-law Louise Wasserott; children, Lynn Rider, and Debbie Wasserott.

Hazel is survived by her husband James Rider, children, Duane Weaver and wife Debbie of Centermoreland, Cathi Pederson of Forty Fort, John Weaver and wife Kim of Dallas, Charles Wasserott IV of Doylestown and Dana Rider of Philadelphia. Grandchildren, Duane Weaver, Wayne Weaver, Nicole Skipalis, JJ Weaver, Alexis Weaver, Charles Wasserott V, Abigail Super, Daniel Wasserott, Steven Oko; Great Grandchildren, Wyatt Weaver, Charles Wasserott VI, James Wasserott, Jackson Super, Tyler Super; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Special thanks to Hospice of the Sacred Heart for such compassionate care given to Hazel and her family at a most difficult time.

The services will be at the convenience of the family through Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home., Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
