Elvira (Bocolo) Horvat, 94 of Yardley, Pennsylvania, formerly of Pittston and Philadelphia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Elvira was born on March 24, 1929, in Pittston, PA, to the late Frank Bocolo and Eleanor Cerelli Bocolo. Elvira married Andrew Horvat, Jr. on August 9, 1954 in Pittston, PA. They moved to Philadelphia and began their lives together, they welcomed 3 children, Susan, Andrew III, and Anne Marie. She enjoyed working at the Philadelphia Zoo for several years. Upon her husband’s retirement the couple moved to Yardley, PA to be closer to their family.
Elvira was a servant of God, a loving mother and doting grandmom and great grandmom. She was selfless, warmhearted and always the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need throughout her whole life, even as she aged. Elvira was a gracious hostess and excellent cook. She loved to indulge her family by preparing each of their favorite meals. She was an avid fan of the Eagles and Phillies and loved to watch golf and The Bachelor on TV. She was a giving and caring person to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, Elvira is preceded in death by her beloved husband Andrew Horvat Jr.; son, Andrew Horvat III; brothers, Thomas, Daniel, Joseph, and Ernest Bocolo; and sister, Janet Siminetti.
Elvira is survived by daughter Susan Abramson, son-in-law Richard and their children Michelle, Carly and husband Joseph Frankowski, and great granddaughter Vienna of Bensalem, PA, and Allison of Newtown, daughter-in-law Karen Horvat, wife of the late Andrew Horvat III and their children, Andrew, Katie, Nicholas and Leah of Woodbury, NJ; daughter Anne Marie Horgan, son-in-law Paul and children, Michael and his wife, Bailey, Ryan, Tommy, Paul and John of Washington Crossing, PA and all of her extended family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony’s of Padua Church-St. Barbaras Parish, 224 Memorial St., Exeter, PA, Msgr. John Sempa, officiant.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, at 10:00 AM until the mass, at St Anthony of Padua Church-St. Barbaras Parish.
Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Slovak Cemetery, Schooley Ave., Exeter.
For those who cannot travel, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00AM on October 28, 2023, at the Olde Church of St. Andrew, 125 South Sycamore St., Newtown, PA 18940. Relatives and friends can join the family from 10:30AM until the time of mass to share condolences.
