Dr. Joseph R. Shaver

Dr. Joseph R. Shaver, 61 of Evans, Georgia, (formally of Wyoming PA), passed away November 20, 2024, in Georgia. 

He was born in Kingston to the late Joseph M and Janice Ludwig Shaver. Joseph graduated from Wyoming Area High School, Class of 1981; Scranton University, Class of 1985 and Georgetown Medical School, Class of 1989. He completed his Internship, Residency and Fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, specializing in Internal Medicine, Pulmonology and Critical Care. He worked in the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital, Augusta, Georgia for 25 years before his retirement. 

Joe had an illustrious medical career and was known by all as a very kind, compassionate and attentive physician. He had very quick wit and always brought a smile to everyone he knew or would meet. He always put the needs of everyone else before his own. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Robert Cishek. 

Surviving are his wife, Ellen Cishek Shaver; son, Dr. Joseph C. Shaver and his wife Caroline; daughters, Nina M. Shaver and Angela G. Shaver; sister, Cheryl Himlin and her husband David and many nieces and nephews and cousins who adored him. 

A Celebration of his life will be held locally in the near future. Arrangements are entrusted to Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home, Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
