Diane Louise Montross, age 62, of Centermoreland, Pennsylvania passed away Tuesday, January 28th, 2025. She was born in Kingston, PA to Doris Motichka Montross and the late Harold John Montross.
Diane was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School. Upon graduation, she began her employment with John Heinz Rehabilitation Center, also known as Allied Services, in Wilkes Barre as a certified nurse’s aide. Diane was still employed by Allied Services at the time of her death, nearly 40 years later.
Diane was a faithful member of the Gate of Heaven Church in Dallas. She attended mass weekly so many people recognized her face as a constant at Saturday evening services or Sunday morning worship.
Diane’s favorite time of year was the summer. She loved picking and canning vegetables and fruit. She was often seen picking her beloved blueberries and strawberries and then taking them to church members, neighbors and family nearby. Tomatoes and beans were a staple on the basement shelves. Peaches and pears too. She also loved to bake. She would stock Tupperware and tin cans with Christmas cookies every year, so much so that family and friends would enjoy them through March! Her favorite was the orange cookies with the white powdered sugar icing that she learned to make beside her grandmother.
Diane loved to mow the lawn and hang laundry on the clothesline. She also enjoyed a good evening walk. She was often seen hiking up the hill in the center of Centermoreland. She’d stop into the corner store often and get supplies or just visit. She also loved riding to Dallas to run errands and go to the grocery store. There likely wasn’t a day that passed that someone didn’t see Diane coming around the rock cut! She had a prized collection of Garfields and Penn State memorabilia.
But perhaps Diane’s greatest achievement was the commitment to her father and mother’s care. She was a devoted daughter and loved spending time with her parents. Diane’s nursing home background helped her to remain vigilant throughout her father’s health decline years ago. Because of her help, our father was able to die peacefully in his own home. She was just as vigilant with her mother’s care, before her state of health became too much for the family. Diane, prior to her death, visited her mother almost daily at The Gardens in Tunkhannock.
Diane leaves behind her seven siblings and her ten nephews and four nieces, and of course, her beloved mother Doris.
